Organic Farm Gets Mention in “Island Kitchen”

The farm was delighted to see it got a mention (although perhaps mention is a tad unfair! we get a double-page spread!) in notable St John’s chef Mark McCrowe’s (whose restaurants are Aqua and The Club) book “Island Kitchen: An Ode to Newfoundland”. The Organic Farm are regular suppliers of these restaurants. Here’s the relevant passage:

“Newfoundland cuisine is based on root vegetables and I have a deeply rooted love for them. Sometimes they’re underutilized  but can be so versatile if you know how to treat them. We are capable of so much more than just your regular Sunday dinner veg. People on the Island have been really testing the boundaries of what can and can’t be grown here over the last number of years. One place in particular deserves full-credit for pioneering how we think about farming in Newfoundland, and through trial and error have totally turned the normal on its head. The Organic Farm is located in Portugal Cove, just a short drive from St. John’s. They have been supplying local chefs with the best quality and variety of organically grown vegetables for just about as long as I can remember. They are a real credit to our local food scene and really understand that great ingredients are the real heroes behind a great plate of food.”

Thanks, Mark! We agree wholeheartedly.
