The Organic Farm

Recipes

Introduction

This aspect of the Website is developed primarily for the members of our bulk buying club, which is named the Veggie Coop. We start off the season providing ideas and recipes to use the vegetables and herbs available in our weekly coop bags. Our farm staff and veggie coop members also send in recipes.

Over the years, we have collected hundreds of recipes from our gourmet friends and people like Kathy Mackey, who seem to have recipes for all things, all occasions and all seasons. See Kathy’s rhubarb crush and potato salad recipe. A little later in the season, when Kale is plentiful and people are wondering what to do with it, we will post Kathy’s recipe for Kale chips. Over the past fifteen years that the Organic Farm has offered the Veggie Coop, we have collected two binders of recipes. This is our first season for sharing on the Website.

If you have a favourite recipe, send it along. Remember we try to follow the growing season on the Avalon Peninsula on the Island of Newfoundland. If the recipe is borrowed from elsewhere, it is important to acknowledge the original source. For the recipes provided, if the source or contributor is not noted, the recipes comes from my recipe collection. When the recipe is a family recipe, sometimes it is fun to know the story. For example, see Mrs. Walters Rhubarb Cake recipe.

Send your comments and recipes to organicfarm@nl.rogers.com. We look forward to a wonderful and exciting season. (Melba Rabinowitz, July 2007)
