A True Christmas Story! Sash'a Altai Tomatoes

A True Christmas Story! The wind is whipping around the corner of our house, which is situated on a hill, facing West, overlooking Conception Bay and Bell Island. It is about (-10) outdoors, a good time to be indoors by the wood stove. Mike was doing his seed inventory in a small, cozy little office upstairs, which served as the family nursery over thirty years ago. He came downstairs, very excited about the story of Sasha's Altai Tomato. These are tomato seeds from Siberia, now available from Seeds Trust. It is truly an amazing and inspiring story.

According to the High Elevation Gardening Web Log "Blog", Sasha's Altai Tomato seed is known around the world and at one time sold for $5.00 per single seed in Australia. On the Blog, you will also learn more about Bill McDorman, the man, who met Sasha in 1989. He also seems to be a remarkable man. Bill is a horticultural cultural explorer, who stalks and hunts seeds sans gun but with camera, and had already collected sixty different kinds of tomato seeds in Siberia before he met Sasha. Of course, Mike has put in an order to Seeds Trust. He plans to grow the tomatoes in the unheated greenhouse. We'll let you know how Sasha's Altai Tomatoes fared in Newfoundland, this time next year.
